As someone who started using computers by clicking around with a mouse, I relied heavily on apps like “Activity Monitor” on the Mac or “Task Manager” on Windows to show me the status of applications and resource comsumption.

As I dive deeper into the world of Linux, command line interfaces (CLI) is the currency which software developers and system administrators rely heavily upon. This is especially important you need to SSH into another machine to troubleshoot issues.

The Top command is the CLI replacement for their friendly user interface counterpart while still listing information clearly in one single window.
